Gail Hulnick
Gail is a journalist and former broadcaster with many years of experience as a public speaker, writer, and consultant. She has interviewed thousands of newsmakers, as a CBC Radio host, a political reporter for CTV affiliate CFRN-TV, and a reporter with CBC-TV News. She has published articles on business, government, the arts, education, health and sports, in a range of magazines.
Gail is also an active volunteer, currently with VoicePrint and with the Pacific Assistance Dogs Society. She has served as vice chair of the North Vancouver District Library Board, as a jury panel member with the Jack Webster Awards for Excellence in Journalism, and as a member of the Big Sisters of B.C. Lower Mainland Honourary Advisory Board for 21 years. She has also previously devoted time to fund development work with the Canadian Red Cross, to community awareness planning with the Continuing Education Department at the University of British Columbia, and to numerous roles with amateur sports teams and school organizations.
She holds an MBA from the University of Alberta, an MA in Journalism from the University of Western Ontario, and an Honours BA in Sociology and Psychology from the University of Alberta. Subsequent education includes courses in writing and print production management through the Writing and Publishing Program at Simon Fraser University, the Canadian Securities Certificate, and the Professional Financial Planning Course through the Canadian Securities Institute.
In 1997, Gail established WindWord Communications as a consulting, editorial production, coaching and training firm. Her consulting work has included strategic communications planning for product launches, new government services, and ongoing internal and external corporate communications. She has consulted on message development for companies and individuals, and has evaluated media content analysis results for clients in government and business.
Her experience also includes implementing the recommendations of communications plans and creating the material needed to convey the information. Working with a network of graphic designers, editors, writers, and printers, she has guided the production of brochures, newsletters, reports, press releases, educational booklets, and websites.
Her training repertoire comprises workshops, small group seminars, keynote speeches, and private coaching. She has helped people in government, education, business, sports, law, real estate, and consulting to understand the demands of the media and to polish their public speaking and presentation skills. Gail's coaching style is direct, analytical, goal-oriented, and empathetic.
Whether steering a group to a workable communications strategy, writing an article that captures the essence of a person, place or thing, or speaking to an audience about media relations management, Gail's objective is to help the client send out signals that are clear, compelling, creative, and ultimately productive.
